France condemns the passing by the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska on Tuesday 27 June of a law aimed at making decisions by the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina inapplicable in the entity.

The decision is contrary to the Bosnian constitutional order and can have no legal effect. It runs counter to the expectations that accompanied the granting of European Union candidate status to Bosnia and Herzegovina. It contradicts the aspirations and interests of all Bosnia and Herzegovina’s citizens, who would like to join the European Union.

As a witness to the Dayton Accords, France will continue to support Bosnia and Herzegovina’s unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty. It calls on the political forces in the Republika Srpska to reverse this decision as soon as possible and return to the path of the reforms necessary for Bosnia and Herzegovina as a whole to have a future in Europe.
